Killer Chat! Original Edition — All 4 Routes, 8 Endings Guide & Complete Walkthrough
Killer Chat! Original Edition is a dark romance chat simulation visual novel by rosesrot, created for the Spooktober 6th Annual Visual Novel Jam — where it placed 1st for "Itch.io Favorite." Rated 4.9/5 stars from nearly 5,000 players, the game puts you inside a secret server populated by actual serial killers. Four routes, eight endings, full voice acting, and approximately 9–12 hours of total content make it one of the most polished free horror romance visual novels available.
Story: You've Been Invited to the Wrong Server
You are a writer and aspiring crime novelist who has been asking suspicious questions online about murder methods for research. One day you receive a cryptic invitation with a single warning: "don't be so obvious smh You're Gonna Get Caught." You join the server expecting fellow true crime enthusiasts — and discover it is populated by actual, practicing serial killers.
Over the course of six in-game months, you must maintain your cover as a killer while building relationships with the server's members. The irony: you came to write about murderers, and now you are trying not to become their next victim — or their next obsession.
The Chat Simulation System
Unlike a traditional visual novel, Killer Chat! simulates the experience of being inside a real chat server. You don't just read dialogue — you participate in it:
- Write your own status messages, biography, and chat replies
- Make and receive voice calls and video calls with characters
- Listen to voice messages left by server members
- Manage friend requests and direct message relationships
- Customize your character fully: name, username, personality, gender presentation, appearance, clothing, accessories, and even your kill method archetype — because you need a convincing cover story
Choices throughout the six months — especially during key scenes like the October phone call sequences — determine which endings you reach on each route.
The Four Routes
Each route takes approximately 2–3 hours and features two distinct endings. The game does not lock you into a single route on your first playthrough — you can pursue different characters across separate saves.
- Ronin (voiced by Jett Barker) — The server's most prominent figure. His route is intense and confrontational. Pay close attention to any letters he capitalizes in his messages during Month 6 — they are a clue to learning his real name, which unlocks a key moment in his route.
- Angel (voiced by Emilie Brewer) — The female route that has generated the most fan engagement since the game's release. Her dynamic with the player character shifts significantly depending on how you handle Ronin's ending — she is paying attention to what you do.
- V (voiced by Jason Hall) — Described as the most morally self-justified member of the server, who views his killings as acts of morality. His route builds slowly; the key divergence point comes when he arrives at your home and you must answer police questions that determine whether he gets away.
- Misaki (voiced by sir samgrace, non-binary) — Misaki's route is unlocked by choosing to focus on them during the blue text introspection sequences early in the game. Their final act — a planned kill in your city — is the pivot point where your choice determines the outcome entirely.
The server also includes secondary characters: an arsonist, a 1990s-style slasher, a surfer who stumbles into killing, and a lonely hearts poisoner — all of whom appear in the chat and influence the atmosphere of each route.
All 8 Endings — Guide (Spoilers)
Important note before reading: In Killer Chat!, the endings labeled "good" and "bad" are often intentionally inverted. The outcome that is narratively better for the characters is sometimes the one the game calls a "bad ending." Read carefully.
Ronin — Two Endings
- The Kill (Bad End): If you choose to kill Ronin when the option opens at the end of his route, you will get a time skip. Angel addresses the server and tells you she will kill you for what you did.
- His Name (Better End): In Month 6, when given the option to confront Ronin or talk to Angel, focus on Ronin. Watch the letters he capitalizes across his messages — they spell out his first name, then eventually his last name (which ends with a T). Piecing this together leads to a different resolution.
Angel — Two Endings
Angel's two endings hinge on how you navigate her relationship and your actions toward Ronin. Her route has the strongest reaction to choices made in other characters' storylines — approach her with consistency and be aware that she does not forgive betrayal easily.
V — Two Endings
- Bad End: Be hostile toward V throughout his route — insult him, push back on his worldview, and treat him with contempt. This path leads to a negative resolution.
- Good End: Build rapport with V as normal, then when he appears at your home, answer the police's questions differently than your instincts suggest. Protecting him from arrest in that scene is what separates the good ending from the bad one.
Misaki — Two Endings
- "Bad" End (narratively better): When Misaki is carrying out their final planned kill in your city, do not call them. They complete their mission without getting caught. Ronin later messages you to confirm he will not move against you.
- "Good" End (narratively worse): Call Misaki during their kill. The distraction causes them to be caught. They are shot. Ronin addresses the server to announce their death. This is the outcome the game labels the "good ending" — the label is deliberately misleading.
Tips Before You Play
- The game is not mobile-compatible. It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux only. Do not attempt to run it on Android or via emulators — this is explicitly unsupported.
- Save frequently across multiple slots. The six-month structure means choice consequences can take a long time to surface. Multiple saves let you backtrack to key moments without replaying hours of content.
- Your character customization affects how others see you. The kill method archetype you select at the start shapes early dialogue with server members. Take it seriously — a convincing cover story opens more relationship options.
- The October phone calls are the most important divergence points. Whatever route you are on, pay the most attention to your choices during Month 4 (October). These scenes have the strongest weight on your final ending.
- Read the endings labels skeptically. As noted above, "bad" and "good" do not always mean what you expect. The official companion book (a 127-page guide by rosesrot) explains the intended reading of each ending if you want clarity after finishing.
- During Ronin's route in Month 6, read every message carefully. Capitalized letters scattered through his messages are not typos — they are a puzzle with a payoff.

Conclusion
Killer Chat! Original Edition is one of the best-executed horror romance visual novels released in 2024. The chat simulation format makes it feel unlike any other game in the genre, the voice cast is strong across all four routes, and the deliberately subverted ending labels reward players who read critically rather than taking the game at face value. Four routes, eight endings, nine to twelve hours of content, and a 4.9-star rating from nearly 5,000 players — all free. Start a new chat. Just be careful what you say.
